charging/battery problem
« on: September 22, 2010, 06:21:06 pm »
I am having issues with my charging/battery. I have killed my optima red top a few times and charged it. Now I have gone through two alternators in a month or two. I can unhook the main power wire to the battery and the voltage shows 14+. As soon as I touch the positive back to the battery it drop to 11+or-. Is my optima toast or is there another issue here? I wouldnt think it was any thing else because the ground and power circuit are still fully connected the only thing out of the loop is the battery right? Just trying to figure out if its time to get a new battery or something else.

sounds like a ground short somewhere, not enough to pop a fuse but enough to draw power. i usually have starter issues with that.
build it, beat it, break it, fix it, repeat
