Ok, I guess if I leave early enough, I should be able to get there by 8, even if I go the wrong way and have to turn around. I don't think my son has anything going on that day, so I should be able to make this. Those news clips make it sound like it's a pretty big place.

Well, I was really on the fence on this one given we haven't been home for a Sat. since mid-June. But, Since I uncovered a hole in our basement wall last night I probably need to be working on fixing that before the next round of storms come through.
Have fun!

Is anyone game for an extended lunch??? I was thinking like burgers and dogs on a camp stove. If we do, anyone is welcome to use it I will have plenty of fuel and you can just use my pan. If there is not extra time, or the proper place, or no one else wants to, let me know. I can fly with cold lunch just as well Ted

Extended lunch sounds good, but will that cut too much into our wheeling time if she wants to be done by 3? If not and we can get a head count, I can bring some burgers and dogs.

I'll be there. I've gotten clearance to be out of the house for 12 hours (including travel time).
Wow, just made it. I left at 6:20am and got back at 6:15pm. I was almost AWOL Well, we put about 15 miles on the property there. Didn't do a whole lot of new stuff. But, we are definitely more familiar with the trails around the Whaleback area. We did about a 5 mile loop around the Whaleback. Some long loose rocky grades, but still greens none the less. We checked out many trails that were deadends and made note of them. There's so much more to check out. Since Barry wasn't able to make it we didn't get over to the other side of the property like we wanted. (We don't know where the entrance is.) We had 7 vehicles show up. ( Jenn, Dave & the kids, Keith, Leonard, KY Steve, Jeremy, Ted and family, and myself) With that kind of count we might consider splitting into two groups next time, and then comparing notes. I took my stock 311,000 mile Cherokee and it preformed admirably on those loose rocky inclines. The only breakage was Jeremy's front shock tower. All in all it was a productive day and I'm ready to go again asap.

We had TWO CJs on the trip, Odds were good that at least one of them would have SOMETHING fall off, In my case it was the three bolts that hold my shock tower on, (thanks to the help Ted and the loaner bolts Jen)
I was also plagued with a high speed miss between 2500 and 2900 rpm under load, this is about any speed greater than 62 mph about half throttle. It quickly develops into bucking, stalling, backfiring and loss of power, sometimes it smooths out when the throttle is wide open, it will smooth out if I come off the gas. I suspect a ignition issue (GM HEI on a 258cid) or a carb/ or timing issue) but since it only becomes apparent under the conditions described it makes it very hard to trouble shoot. Ideas?
I am not sure, but the this trip may have been the last time I wheeled this jeep since guiding at Camp Jeep 2005, it has sat for a while. It was good to get it out and hit the trail again and it may have been the first time I wheeled it with out that full hard top on it. This property has a LOT of potential and it is pretty varied. the part we were on as mentioned was largely new growth forest running through the pits and overburden piles. Largely there is a total lack of top soil. Most of the ground is sand, pea to fist sizes Ignatius rocks, shale or sandstone. Some of the trails are very narrow between fairly new trees. There is LOTS of trash and even current trash burning, this is not a sandal friendly trail, it is also firmly into snake country. This part of the property is also fairly dry, although there were a couple of water and goo type mud holes this were at best small and only 8" deep, Stay out of the large standing water, it is highly acidic (although we did not test it) These are NOT paragon lake. Trails reminded a lot of us as equivalent to "Haul Road", "Turtle", at worst "inner spare tire " trails at Paragon.
