Body Lift
« on: December 05, 2009, 03:35:42 pm »
I was wondering if the Cherokees can have body lifts, my one friend yes they do. And my one other friend said no, that the Cherokee bodys are welded to the frame.

I thought you said, a while back, that you were gonna buy Eric Zappe's book? If you had, you would know that Cherokee XJ's have uni-bodies. They don't have a standard "Frame", like most vehicles, but have what is called Frame Rails that are attached to the body. So the answer is NO, you can't do a body lift. For less than $20 you can save yourself a lot of time, and $$. e.g., the tires you just bought, this book has info about tire fitment and rim requirements. Now you don't have to buy this book, or listen to me (of which you've done neither) and go about buying parts, working on, and modifying your Jeep by Trial and Error. There's nothing wrong with that method, many people have done that and have built some really nice rigs, although it took them a lot longer and cost 'em a lot more money than others who chose to research and plan first.
The path we choose to travel, albeit the same destination, is, of course, a personal decision.

NO way they are unibody. Just crawl under your jeep and youll see why. Also look where the front coils are located...they are attached to the body and axle...

I personally new that the Cherokees could not get body lifts, but my one friend was 110% sure that they could, he wanted me to post this question. After he read your answer he said "oops, I thought they did". He was also trying to tell me that my Jeep is not an XJ, that its something else. Hes one of those kinds of people that thinks he knows everything there is to know about cars.

I have to ask...How can you own a Uni-Body Jeep and NOT know it...?

YJ's have square (rectangular) headlights as do Cherokee XJ's....."Real Jeeps Have Round Headlights!"!
The origonal Cherokee's had round headlights...Zing!!!

I must say that's a much milder response then I expected  :-\   (but that was from Dave and NOT the Trail Boss)   But I have to agree with you Dave, it ain't much of a trail rig if it ain't on a trail, no matter what kind of headlights it has... now Chew on that :P

Rick, I guess if they don't look under their Jeep and just flip a coin, they're gonna be right 50% of the time. BUT this ain't that time ;D
