sealing the valve cover
« on: November 04, 2007, 08:43:29 am »
I have an 85 CJ 7 258 in line 6 cyl.  Having some trouble getting the valve cover to seal properly. I know the original valve cover was plastic, but I am dealing with an aluminum cover.
So far I have tried:  1. just putting it back on  2. used a 1/4 inch bead of caulk and replaced the cover, still leaking.

What are my options here? Buy a new valve cover from Quadratec? Which one? ???

Try using a valve cover "gasket" along with high heat sealant.

Check your valve cover with a straight edge, it could be warped. Torque to specs.
Cork gasket and "Great Stuff" works for me. I have one with plastic cover and one with steel. Both seep a little, but  I that's normal.
