General Discussion / Paint Booth for Rent?
« on: June 29, 2012, 07:50:35 pm »
Does anyone know of any shops that rent out their paint booths? I have all the needed spray guns and other equipment...all I need is a booth for a day/weekend. If I have to, I can build a temp one in my backyard...but I'm sure the neighbors wouldn't be very appreciative or approving of such a venture. This is a common thing over in Britain...shops with spray booths for rent are everywhere.

It looks good, sitting a little lower on 32's, I believe. It's a good, solid runner. However, he's still fighting with the elec drain...he thinks the culprit is the alarm circuit. I'll say something to him...maybe he'll let you take it for a drive!

I could probably arrange a date for you and your "old" YJ. Maybe I can pull some strings and get the current owner to let you take it for a cruise...

Hire a band. Jeff Daniels has one and it makes for a kick-ass and MEMORABLE show! Fireworks afterward?

Offer a Jeep 101 course. After watching the antics on the O-course for the past 10+ years, it's obvious that there are many first-timers on the course that could use some edumacation.

The Jeep build-up/raffle is a good idea...liabilities could be HUGE, though. C.Y.A. through legal stuff would equal many $$$$.

Good luck with your sale Joe.

Sold it yesterday.  The new owner really likes her

Good sign, Joe...there's an '80 CJ7 sitting in my backyard to make room for his "new" '95 YJ. He had no more room in his driveway, so I offered up my backyard as a storage area for the CJ until he decides what to do with it!

New Mickey Thompson Classic II and 33" spare...along with a new bracket and 3rd eye mover-ma-jig. Got tired of that rusty old black steelie that was wearing a 32" piece of black Swiss cheese that I was calling a spare. It was so shot that the air was showing through.

Same thing (sorta) happened to me 2 years ago. I was stopped at a stoplight in Columbia about 4 blocks from my house. The guy in the old Mazda B2000 P.U. didn't see me until he had a face full of bumper and hitch. We got out, he apologized profusely, and I took notice to the flecks of black paint on my hitch ball. That was it....some black paint on my hitch. No damage whatsoever. His Mazda? That's another story...the front end was caved-in about 6 inches and the rad was toast. I told him I saw no need for the cops...I was OK, the Jeep was OK, and he was OK. He agreed and I drove off! Never saw him again

After owning my TJ for 8+ years, I FINALLY ditched the fugly bugshield that the P.O. had installed. The only reason why I didn't ditch it before now is that the paint underneath the shield was boogered-up due to the shield vibrating against the hood. I sanded the nose of the hood and sprayed it with black truckbed liner. At least the nose will still have some protection...and that stoopid-a$$ bugshield is history! Hated that damn thing...  >:(

Flushed and filled with new coolant, installed a new thermostat, and took the stinkin' cover off my winch. It now runs BELOW the 210* mark. Best of all, I didn't need to get a new the tune of $500+.   8)

Now I'm going to go give it a good lube. Ewww, that sounds dirty...I need to get a shower now.   >:D

Hey Dave,
It seems that I can't run with the cover on the winch...I took it off last night and ran it all day without the temp going above 210*. At least my Jeep now has fresh antifreeze and a new t-stat, and the cooling system has been flushed clean! As long as it doesn't run hot, I'm not going to concern myself with a new rad...unless a sweet-a$$ deal comes along.

Now on to the important stuff...axles, lockers, etc.!!!

Thanks again for your advice.

I'll tell ya...I've had more "confidence inspiring" replies to my questions in the past, Mr. Watson!  ;)

That's kind of the notion that I got while surfin' for new rads. I bought one of the $hitty $100 chinese ones for my F150 about a year ago, and it seems to holding up fine...for now. The "Be Cool" units look to be the direction that I'm leaning, unless my CFO/accountant/girlfriend finds out how much they cost.

I just got done doing the flush-n-fill, new t-stat (what a pain in the a$$ that was!), and I'm in the process of topping it off and taking it for a shakedown cruise. I'm going to leave the cover on the winch for the shakedown to see how it acts.

Thanks for the reply...your help and advice is appreciated.

As I was coming home from a golf course in the Fishing Creek area above Harrisburg, bear in mind that it was 3:00 in the afternoon and 95 stinkin' degrees out, my TJ seemed to be running a little on the toasty side. No boil over, but it was above the 210 mark while running on Rt. 283.

I'm going to start with a flush and fill, new 'stat and housing, and see what happens from there. I know that the OEM radiators are basically junk (with the plastic tank and whatnot) and replacing it is going to be a consideration as well. Any suggestions as to which radiator I should install? I would like to keep it a bolt in replacement...only a heavier-duty unit.

Oh yeah, I also added a winch a couple months ago, and maybe that's blocking some of the airflow to the rad. I have a vinyl cover on the winch...maybe I could just peel that off and see if the increased airflow helps with the cooling.

I have an electric SPAL fan that I was going to put in my F150, but it might find a new home in the TJ...if it fits.

Got the new header installed and my vanity plate arrived today. Keep your eye out for the black TJ with the license plate:

Got a new header today to replace the cracked unit on my TJ...thanks, jeepgrlxj. Should be able to install it by the end of next week. Just might add a new Flowmaster while I'm under there.
