17th Annual (2012) / We need something NEW !
« on: September 04, 2011, 12:43:49 pm »
Our Jeep Show is approaching it's 17th year in 2012 and I feel it needs something new/different to draw more participation interest.

Yes, the membership discusses various ways to enhance it, but I'd like to hear from others outside the Club as well.

I'm encouraging everyone to let us know what YOU think may enhance our Annual Event.

National Issues / 15 Minutes Could Save You 100% On "Trail Funding"

15 Minutes Could Save You 100% On Trail Funding by Dave Halsey, NOHVCC Contributing Writer

“Now is the time for all good men/women to come to the aid of their party.”
Remember typing that sentence over and over when you took Typing 101 in high school or college?

Let me offer up a variation:
“Now is the time for all good OHV riders to come to the aid of their trail funding program.”

The Recreational Trail Program (RTP) isn’t just in jeopardy, it’s on life support and barely breathing. It could die if we don’t act.
RTP is a program of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), providing funds to the states to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both motorized and non-motorized recreational trail uses.

On July 7th, U.S. Congressman John Mica, Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, released an outline of a “Transportation Reauthorization Proposal.” As reported by Stuart Macdonald, Chair of the National Association of State Trail Administrators, here are the key points for the Mica proposal:
•   Consolidation or elimination of most “special” programs, including RTP, Enhancements, Safe Routes, etc.
•   States will be permitted to fund such “non-highway activities” but will no longer be required to set aside funds.
•   Funding is reduced from the $50 billion authorized in 2010 to something closer to the $35 billion in annual revenue from current fuel taxes.
The Coalition for Recreational Trails (CRT), formed in 1992 to ensure that RTP receives adequate funding, is encouraging an amendment to the proposal, should it be introduced as a House bill. “This would require serious commitment from enough members of Congress to challenge Rep. Mica's austere budget,” said Macdonald.
How do we get Congress to commit to extending RTP? By stepping up our efforts. OHV clubs, riders, state OHV program managers and associations, national advocacy groups, we all need to step in and speak up. “It’s time for everyone to think farther ahead than just their next ride, sit down at the computer and take action, otherwise RTP is going to be gone, and the future of OHV trails will be in jeopardy,” said Karen Umphress, NOHVCC Project Coordinator. “Everyone needs to contact their legislators, both their Senators and their Congressmen, and let them know how important RTP is. This is user-paid money so there’s no reason it should be excluded.”
To state your case even stronger, you can point out just how much RTP funding is at risk in your state. Go to the Partner Contact section of the NOHVCC website. Select your state from the map or the dropdown list, the click the 'Recreational Trails Program' tab just above the partner contact results. There you will find links to your RTP contact person for your state, the Federal Highway Administration webpage, and a webpage that shows RTP appropriations for your state.
For a quick, easy tool to contact your Congressional delegates and encourage them to continue RTP funding, go to the web site of the Americans for Responsible Recreational Access: www.arra-access.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ms. Kathy Jeremiah, AOAA Project Coordinator
Northumberland County Planning Department
399 S. Fifth Street
Sunbury, PA 17801

REGARDING: Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area Master Plan Public Meeting – July 6th

Northumberland County will hold its third public input session on the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) Master Plan.  The County commissioned this study to evaluate and provide recommendations for over 6,500 acres of County property proposed to become a formalized venue for motorized and non-motorized recreation activities.

The public meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 - 6:30 pm, at the Shamokin Area Junior Senior High School Auditorium, 2000 W. State Street, Coal Township, PA 17866.
A draft of the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area Master Plan is available for review at www.northumberlandco.org and www.anthraciteadventure.com.

At this meeting the Consultants will present a draft of the recommendations developed for the proposed facility including:

   Facility and activity areas proposed within the AOAA
   Proposed plan for Phase I funding and development
   Proposed rules of use for the AOAA
   Providing for the safety and security of visitors to the AOAA
   Business plan components including the proposed fee structure to cover operating and maintenance expenses, and future capital development
   Projected economic impact to Northumberland County

At this meeting attendees will have the opportunity to comment on the draft recommendations presented in the master plan.

John Buerkle, Principal of Pashek Associates, said “Throughout the process the community, business leaders, and steering committee provided thoughtful input and raised legitimate concerns.  That input was taken to heart.  Collectively the committee, the county, and the consultant’s listened to it, reflected on it, and responded with a plan that responds to resident’s desires.”  He further notes “implementing the master plan will formalize and secure public access to the land for current and future residents of the County, provide a safe venue for responsible motorized and non-motorized recreation, and provide the County with much needed economic development by spurring the creation of new businesses and jobs, increasing the tax base, and increasing spending in the local communities.”  Economic development was the impetus for the project, and Bloomsburg University has agreed to study and report on the actual economic impact of the AOAA on the region as the plan is set in motion.”

Pat Mack, Director of the Northumberland County Planning Department, said “This has been a good process, a lot of issues have been raised, and we believe the plan reflects the appropriate direction for the future of the property.  Formalizing the plan opens the opportunity to seek the state, federal, and private funding necessary to build the project.  This provides an opportunity to legally permit recreation on this property for future generations, as well as much needed economic stimulus to the Lower Anthracite Region.”

This is the third of three public input sessions being held during the master planning process for the AOAA.

The master plan is being funded with grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.  The plan is being prepared by Pashek Associates, a Landscape Architecture and Community Planning Firm located in Pittsburgh, in conjunction with Pennoni Associates of Mechanicsburg.

16th Annual (2011) / Frequently Asked Questions
« on: March 29, 2011, 01:40:41 am »
Questions & Answers
We encourage you to open our eight page registration/information packet located on the home page.
Most of your questions will be answered. Please take time to read it over.

Q - Do I have to register my Jeep in order to attend?
A - No, you can enter as a spectator but you will miss out on some perks of bringing your Jeep inside the event.
a)   Goodie Bag
b)   Commemorative Dash Plaque
c)   FREE Winch Raffle Ticket and Chairman’s Choice Prize Ticket. (Only registered Jeep owners receive these)
d)   The camaraderie that comes with having your Jeep parked within 500 other Jeep owners…Friendships built.

Q – What is the spectator admission fee?
A - $5 per day…children 12 and under FREE

Q – Must I register for both days of the event?
A – NO, you can register Saturday only or arrive Sunday and register.

Q – Can I save by Pre-Registering my Jeep for the event?
A – Yes, if you pre-register your Jeep you will save $10 to spend later. You will also save $3 on each Event Shirt you pre-order. At the same time, you provide us with a better number of Jeeps per classification so we can prepare ample parking for everyone.

Q – Where can I get a registration form?
A – Well, since you are in the forum just click on the “PA Jeeps Home Page” link in the upper right corner of this page.      You’ll see the “Registration-Information” link where you’ll open our eight page packet detailing the event. You only need to print out the Jeep Registration Page and the Waiver Form. We prefer you print a two-sided single page and mail it to the address listed on the registration form.

Q- Is there anything for my children to do?
A – Yes, for those with smaller children we do have an activities tent set up with coloring & crafts so the parents can relax as well. This area is stationed adjacent to the food court so all can grab a bite to eat and relax before returning to the activities.

Q – Can I register my Jeep and bring my used parts along to sell?
A – ONLY if you also purchase a “Swap/Meet” space. (Violation will cause ejection without refund)

Q – Do I have to participate on the obstacle course?
A – No, this is a “Show-N-Shine” event with built-in attractions for those wanting to participate. The obstacle course is built with the “stock” Jeep in mind. Every obstacle can be maneuvered with a “stock” Jeep with the exception of the “BIG ROCK” section. Those built for driving BIG rocks love it, spectators love it, and those Jeep owners meeting the requirements will enjoy it as well.

Q – If I register my Jeep for the event must I pay extra to drive the obstacle course, RTI Ramp, or get into the Slow Crawl Competition?
A – NO, your registration fee allows you access to all the activities involved. You may even win a trophy.

Q – If I enter as a spectator can I exit/return with my Jeep to be a part of the event?
A – Yes, but you must first get your hand stamped at the “Spectator Gate” in order to save the $5 per person you already paid upon entry as a spectator. No hand-stamp…You pay the full price. NO EXCEPTIONS CAN BE MADE.

Q – Are pets allowed?
A – NO, the only pets allowed within the fenced area of the event are “Seeing Eye Dogs”. Outside in the campsite area they are permitted but we ask that you have them restrained and provided plenty of water.

Q – What about adult beverages?
A – Anyone suspected of/or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs within the event area shall be escorted out without refund. This is a family event and we ask that you refrain from doing so. Adult beverages are permitted after hours within the camping area.

Q – Can I show off the horsepower of my Jeep anywhere at this event?
A – We highly suggest you don’t. This is a family oriented event with thousands of people and children walking around. Our speed limit within the fenced event area as well as the surrounding camping area is (5 MPH) and violators will be ejected without refund and possibly prosecuted to the extent of the law. This IS NOT the place for speed. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Q – Can I reserve a camping site?
A – NO, all camping sites are on a First-Come-First-Served basis and are facilitated by the Fairgrounds Staff.

Q – How do I pay for my camping site once I arrive?
A – Upon arrival simply locate a camp site. Refer to the map within the Registration/Information Packet. You can stop by the Event Security Staff Site and ask if not sure. Get your space needed. If you arrive during business hours you must go the Administration Office. There may be evening staff arranged if you arrive after hours, but NOT guaranteed so you will need to get there the next morning.

Q – What hotels are within the area?
A – Go to www.yorkfair.org and click on the accommodations link. There are more than enough hotels, motels, and bed & breakfast facilities within 2-5 miles of the event.

Q – Can I leave my Jeep within the event after hours?
A – Yes, the facility is fenced, locked, and patrolled very regularly after hours. Anyone caught inside the fenced area after hours by security WILL be considered a trespasser subject to the full extent of the law. Unfortunate things can happen in the dark. We do not play games here folks. Providing an entertaining and secure Jeep weekend is our #1 priority for each Jeep owner, spectator, and most importantly our 80+ business owners. WE PROVIDE, SERVE, AND PROTECT THE EVENT AND ALL THAT PARTICIPATE!

Q – I’m a business owner and want to participate…What do I need to do?
A – Our Registration/Information packet located on our Clubs website home page has the form. However, we suggest you contact our Jeep Show Chairman prior to submitting the form for availability of space. You can contact him through email or phone:
Jeep Show Chairman: Rick A. Bear

16th Annual (2011) / NEW "Military Class" Display
« on: February 22, 2011, 11:51:19 am »
Our “Military Class” within the events Show-Field for 2011 will be taken into a direction that our attending enthusiasts have wanted for many years.
Registering a “Military Class” Jeep will remain the same. However, once you are directed to the designated display area you will have some freedom to arrange your vehicle into what will be a “Living Display” of military history.
Enthusiasts and restorers of military Jeeps hold a passion of educating others at numerous events across the country. We want to bring that history, passion, and education to our Jeep Show for everyone to enjoy.

The assistance and coordination of this change is being promoted by a long term military Jeep owner that enjoys our event. Eric Thrush brought this to my attention and has my full support.
If you are one of the honored owners and enthusiasts of a military Jeep and wish to partake in this year’s display feel free to contact Eric by email doc@cavmedplt.com and discuss first-hand what is being planned.

For those that are NOT military Jeep owners I encourage you to take the time over the weekend to stop by and see the fine restorations of these historic vehicles.
The owners of these vehicles are eager to educate everyone on their many needed missions during their military service.

In addition: ONLY the "Military Class" registered Jeep owners will be voting among this classification for 1st-2nd-3rd Place. We've agreed that these Jeep owners are more knowledgable with military Jeeps and shall judge their own peers.
However, everyone else can vote for them for "Best of Show", "Ultimate Beater", and "Best Trail Ready" and they are also eligable for "Longest Distance Traveled".

Understand that what you are about to view is only a small fraction of what is available to see and experience during the two day event.

The TOYOTA banner is a contracted isuue: Sorry, IF we could remove or cover it we would. Just overlook it as we do.
