REGARDING:   Northumberland County Off Highway Vehicle Park Master Plan

Northumberland County will host a Public Input Session on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 - 6:30 pm, at the Shamokin Area Junior Senior High School Auditorium, 2000 W. State Street, Coal Township, PA 17866.  The County has commissioned a study to develop over 6,000 acres of County owned property to create an Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) recreational facility.  This meeting is being held to gather public input relative to the development of the facility.

Pat Mack, Director of the Northumberland County Planning Department, said “We want to obtain input from residents of the County regarding the proposed park.  We want their thoughts and ideas on how we can develop a world class off highway vehicle park in the County.  With the development of this park there will be opportunities to create jobs and provide those who come to visit the park with the goods and services they desire.  The economic potential related to the development of the park is unlike anything the County has experienced in recent years.”    Mack goes on to say “We have an opportunity to provide a facility to meet a demand that is not very well met in Pennsylvania.  If we do this right Northumberland County can be regionally and nationally known as the home of one of the best parks and best places in the United States for motorized and non-motorized recreation.”

Kathy Jeremiah, project coordinator for the Northumberland County Planning Department, stated “The park area, which is over 6,000 acres in size, can accommodate a variety of motorized and non-motorized uses, including full size 4x4’s, rock crawling, MX, ATV, and UTV use, mountain biking, equestrian trail riding, hiking, hunting, camping, and environmental interpretation, to name a few.  It is important that the public come to the meeting and share with us their wishes for the park.”

This is the first of two public input sessions being held during the master planning process for the park.  A second follow-up meeting will be held in the Fall.

Commissioner Kurt Masser said “There is a lot of enthusiasm behind this effort and it has the potential to have a significant positive financial impact to the County and its business community.  There are a lot of issues to address, and a lot of planning that needs to take place.  We’ve started that process and this is your opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas.  We encourage you to participate in this process by attending this important meeting.”

The master plan is being funded with grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.  The plan is being prepared by Pashek Associates, a Landscape Architecture and Community Planning Firm located in Pittsburgh in conjunction with Pennoni Associates of Mechanicsburg.

15th Annual (2010) / Thanks to All !!
« on: July 19, 2010, 03:24:55 pm »
Rick - Thanks for all the hard work you do all year long to put on the Best Jeep Show in the USA! A lot of people don't understand the amount of work you actually do!

Obstacle Course Volunteers - Thanks so much for many hours of hard work out on the course. I am sure lots of people who played on the course this weekend are very appreciative of you all as well! Maybe next year we can purchase those little umbrellas that fit on your hats to provide shade for you  ;D LOL

Wayne - Thanks for your wonderful announcements your voice has become the voice of PA Jeeps except when you gush all over yourself....LOL

Registration and Parking Peeps - With out you all people we would not have a show field. Everything seemed like there were no real issues and I didn't get people coming up to say they had any problems in this area.

PA Jeeps Booth Peeps- Thanks so much! I can't thank you all enough for how well our area ran. Everyone communicated well and worked hard selling tickets and T-shirts! The past two years is the smoothest the club booth has ever ran!

All in all it was a great event and a lot of hard working people helped make this show work. I have my list of volunteers and you all will be receiving a invitation by mail for the Jeep Show Appreciation Banquet in September. It is by invite only so if you did not sign my book and you were there you need to contact me by phone or email.

and again

THANKS![/color][/b]

PA Jeeps Club Events / Trail Difficulty Ratings
« on: March 22, 2010, 07:02:47 pm »
I get questions each month of how difficult the trails are. Here are how trails are rated. I hope this helps some.

GREEN:
Very easy, scenic trail. Mostly flat some pot holes and mud. Any stock vehicle can
travel on it with no problems.

BLUE:
Some obstacles, rocks, ruts, off camber, hills and mud. You can expect to occasionally
hear your undercarriage scrape. Picking your line becomes more crucial, knowing where
to place your tires for maximum traction helps to overcome obstacles. Vehicle modifications
such as larger tires, skid plates and a mild lift are recommended. Although driver skills and
experience will serve you better than vehicle modifications.

BLACK:
Big rocks, deep ruts, extreme hill climbs and deep mud holes. You will hear
scrapes, bangs and rubs. Skid shields are a must as well as minimum of 33 inch
tires and at least one locker. A winch is recemended. A working knowledge
of your vehicle and knowing how to do trail fixes is a must. These trails are not
recommended for those just getting into the sport.

RED:
Unless you have a rock buggy forget it!
