General Discussion / Re: What did you do to your Jeep today?

Super glued my heater knob back together. It decided to crack last night when I got in the Jeep to drive home from York. I cracked just enough so that it wouldn't turn that metal post that turns the heat on. BRRRRR!!  That was a cold ride home!! I'm hoping the glue will hold the knob together, but I'll be keeping the plyers handy just in case.

Used my winch for the first time pulling my friends car up my driveway (moderate incline). We didn't feel like shoveling, and I needed the practice learning how to use the winch.

Technical Advice and Questions / Stock JK Max Wheel/Tire Size??
« on: January 31, 2010, 12:36:54 pm »
So my friend has a 2008 JK 4 door that is completely stock. It has the basic 16" wheels with P225/75R16 tires. She wants to get bigger tires on it for a tougher, more aggressive look. Here are a couple factors that come into play:

- she will not be taking it wheeling
- she does not want to spend the money on a lift
- she is working with a limited budget

Bearing that in mind, here are a couple of questions:

- What is the biggest tire she could put on the stock wheels with no lift?
- What is the biggest tire she could put on with aftermarket wheels, and no lift or modifications?
- I've seen some forums where guys are putting 33's on JKs. Is that realistic?
- Anyone have any recommendations on a decent, inexpensive tire that looks tough but will be used for mostly highway driving?

Thanks for any info!

PA Jeeps Membership / Re: Couple questions before I join

Justjeepn19,

I wanted to chime in here and tell you about my first time wheelin' with PA Jeeps last spring. I was a definite newbie with a moderately modified Jeep. Like Jenn said, I was put in the middle of group and several of the experienced members took me under their wings for the duration of the ride and helped me out every step of the way.... from airing down/up my tires, explaining general concepts, giving instruction on what to do in certain situations, hopping out of their vehicles to spot me over obstacles, and general support and encouragement. It was an excellent experience and I have since joined the club and gone on 4 or 5 more rides, learning something and having a great experience every time, and making some good friends along the way.

Like Jack said, I would recommend going along on a ride as a guest to see for yourself and then you can decide if you want to join. What have you got to lose?  :)

I had Tuna and Kentucky Steve over for a CB installation day yesterday. Charlie and Steve were able to get my antenna mounted and CB installed and wired. So I'll have my "ears on" when out on the trails. Yes Jenn, you will have to quit talking about me now.... I can hear you!!  :P

I used Krylon black fusion paint on my fender flares. If you have seen my Jeep you'll see that you can't even really tell they have been painted. It looks good enough and has help up fine. No cracking or chipping. It is easy to touch up too if you get tree branches scratch marks and such on the trail. The only problem I had was that some gas spilled out when I was filling up once and the gas made the paint blister in one spot. But I was able to just sand it down and touch that up too.

Yay Dave! Hand rolling the winch line did not look like fun.

Jenn, do you ever loan Dave out?

Picked my Jeep up from Hoak's today after a few alterations:

A complete Ford 8.8 rear end to replacemy Dana 35, and new 4.88 gears. Plus lots of other odds and ends... control arms, track bar, new speedometer gears, brakes and brake lines, skid plates, etc.....

Anybody need a spare Dana 35 complete rear end - 3.08 gears? Free to good home for parts or target practice.  ;)

Yes, I happened to be in the right there when Jenn finally decided to go for it.

Um... your rear looks good going over big rocks. I think I got a shot of your other side as well.  :)

Here are my pictures from this weekend with some good shots of Jenn all over those big rocks! Nicely done. I had a great weekend at my first Jeep Show. I was very impressed and will definitely be back next year! I never did get out on the obstacle course though... next year for sure!
