Hooray!  A Cherokee!  Best one yet!  ;D

Actually, I like the entire design.  Easy to read and good color contrast.

That's cool, Rick...because last time I checked out their top of the line products, they had top of the line prices as well!  :o  ;)

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: Should I buy this questionable XJ
« on: March 28, 2009, 08:16:36 pm »
If you want to figure in a price on your labor, you may well reconsider this purchase.  Besides that, my red flag would go up if I couldn't get two straight stories on the history of the thing and its usage/parts.

Then, if you do the swap out, do you junk it right away or try to sell off parts?  It might sit for quite some time until you part it all out.  Do you have the time/space/inclination for that scenario?

Suspension is pretty important stuff. As for me, I'd be scared to buy and re-install a used one.  If it fails, who do you sue?  :P

(Just my worthless opinion.  Feel free to disagree with me)!  ;)

This is good news.  I think that with the economy the way it is, more people are going to be "getting back to nature" and spending less money on resort vacations and more time / money on camping, day trips, etc.   Maintaining the public access lands in anticipation of this only makes sense.

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: 97 Cherokee (hard to start)

I had a similar problem last summer with my '88 where it would crank, but not start at all.  All I did was disconnect the 2 halves of the CPS connector, blow on them, and reconnect them.  Started right up, no hesitation.  Your results may vary.  ;)  P.S. I haven't replaced the CPS yet.

I just got my copy of Eric's book in the mail today, and I'm really enjoying reading it.  Like the rest said, BUY THIS BOOK! It's answering a lot of questions that I had already.

Vendor Feedback / Experiences / Re: Quadratec
« on: January 10, 2009, 07:45:01 pm »
I recently ordered a D-ring shackle assembly for my rear receiver.  They sent it to me in a timely fashion, but when I got it, the D-ring didn't fit around the hitch pin, nor did the hitch pin fit into my receiver!  I have a standard 2" receiver, so that wasn't the problem.  Both parts that they sent me were badly forged, with a huge seam of extra material running up the top and bottom of the hitch as well as on both insides of the D-ring.

I didn't feel like paying to ship it back and wait for another one, so both parts spent some serious time on the bench grinder until they fit each other and my Jeep.  Of course, with all the grinding, I now had to spray paint the parts so that they wouldn't rust!

I called Quadratec to tell them about the problem.  I urged them to go into the warehouse and check the other ones, because if mine was bad, who knows how many others were, too?  The man I spoke to assured me that he would do this himself, immediately.

Today, I checked the site, and lo and behold, the cheap hitch that I bought is now no longer offered for sale.   (You get what you pay for, I guess  :P). I just wanted to save them a lot of grief in case someone *not as nice as me* would buy one and have a cow about it.

I'd buy from them again, of course.  Next time, it'll be something in a brand that I've heard of!  ;)

Thanks for letting us know what happened at the meeting, Hillbilly!  I hope that word of the public outrage at the proposal spreads far and wide after tonight.  Maybe then people will realize that there are a lot of socially-conscious wheelers out there who are going to stick together whenever situations like this arise in the future.

That whole ordinance is a joke--I especially loved part 2G:  Most horse/cattle pastures have grazing land RIGHT UP TO THE HIGHWAY where thousands of noisy vehicles drive past all day and night!  If the cows aren't lobbying for earplugs and dust masks, then I don't see a problem.

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: How dangerous is it?
« on: November 08, 2008, 04:57:30 pm »
(Sent you a PM...don't know if it went thru, so I'll reply here).  Yes, same ones on both sides.  They are standing up, but not enough to fall off.  Since they are rusty I didn't know if it would be a good idea to try and force them back down or not.

Technical Advice and Questions / How dangerous is it?
« on: November 08, 2008, 04:37:46 pm »
I just noticed that one of the bands that goes around my XJ's leaf springs is split open at the top on both sides of the vehicle (The middle set).  It's a little gap but it's not falling off or anything.  Do you think that it's OK to ignore it?

This is great news for ALL outdoor enthusiasts!  Hopefully, the landowners in other areas can be as flexible.

Safety / On & Off The Trail / Re: Air Bag Deployment
« on: September 16, 2008, 09:12:10 am »
My concern is the air bag did not deploy.  Is this normal?

Ouch!  Sounds like something malfunctioned, as airbags are meant to deploy at fairly low speeds.  My XJ doesn't have any airbags, so I'm considering a nice heavy ARB bumper or a stinger to put more distance between me and any fools who pull out in front of me.  :P  Hope that you are going to be OK!
