Technical Advice and Questions / TBI Conversion
« on: August 27, 2010, 09:07:57 pm »
Ok I have done some reading up and taken much advice on transmission and t/c choices for my YJ, I have heard of many puting TBI chevy engines in Jeeps and I figure if its that popular then it has to be the way to go. I have to this point been carb but it has its down side well many of them lol.

I have the ability to get a complete Z71 90 something chevy truck with a 5.7 350 TBI engine, 700r4 & 241c t/c driverdrop. this drive train is solid.

Does anyone know how to wire up the TBI to a YJ or a site that can walk someone through this adventure.

I live in Chambersburg PA, If there is someone that is close enough to me that can do it, I am more than willing to pay. I work at auto shop with lift and every tool one could need so this wouldnt be a back yard job :P

Technical Advice and Questions / Need Help!, 93 YJ
« on: August 20, 2010, 07:54:51 am »
I need expert advise, keep in mind I am not a hard core rock crawling off roader, I do like doing some on a smaller scale tho, but do love play'n in da mud!

My Jeep takes a Chevy small block v8 and want to use a chevy transmission and a chevy transfer case, the conversion unit to make a np231 fit a chevy transmission is like 500+ and then have to get a shop to install the output shaft from it in the trans and that cost alot too. What chevy transfer case can I use that is drivers drop? I have a th400 trans but can use something differant if it would make things easier. (automatic choices plz) I like manuals but like auto better in the mud.

I have a ford 8.8 posi rear installed so I have to get drivelines made anyway so that isnt an issue. Yes I already know a SYE is best way to go LOL.  ;)

My front axle is factory with 4.10s and was going to put 4.10s in rear to match . But if their is a better axle choice for my front please tell me. or will my front axle be fine with the v8? if I use original front axle I was just going to get a posi-lok kit for it.

I dont mind spending the money to make sure my drive train will hold up, but spending like a $1000 bucks just to marry a np231 to a chevy trans seems a waste when I am sure there is a chevy choice out there.

Technical Advice and Questions / Stay SBC or go BBC
« on: June 27, 2010, 09:45:50 am »
I have a 93 YJ that I built mostly for show, since I have an offroad beater Jeep. (YJ discription is in my signature below) I have a 350 sbc that is old and tired and now I am at a turning point. When I look in my engine bay I can see there is plenty of room to drop a BBC 396, 402 or 454 and other than headers the bbc will bolt up to my exsisting 400TH transmission. I have received plenty of attention with the sbc in it but I just want that HOLY CRAP! factor. something many haven't tried to often. I am not to worried with how the rest of my drive trian will hold up since it is a show Jeep and I wont be putting it through punishment to where the bbc will rip stuff apart. As for the weight factor not to worried with it either, because if I use aluminum heads and intake the bbc wont weigh in any more than a full metal jacket sbc. As I said I am just looking for that "take your breathe away WOW! factor". So do keep my sbc which if I do I will stroke to a 383 or just find a 400 sb, or do I just go the extra mile and do the bbc like I am thinking?
