Technical Advice and Questions / 231 Tail Housing
« on: July 04, 2013, 10:25:49 pm »
We just bought a 92 YJ for my wife and it has a blown rear and broken driveshaft. When the driveshaft went out it broken the aluminum housing off the very end of the t-case. I have one from my 95 XJ somewhere around. But before I go on a hunt for it I wanna know if it will work being the wranglers are shorter. Both have are 231 cases.

Technical Advice and Questions / XJ NSS Replacement
« on: February 05, 2013, 07:02:36 pm »
I recently replaced the neutral safety switch in my grandfather's 96 XJ. I tried to rebuild it but broke it trying to man handle it off.  Anyway I adjusted it fully clockwise. It starts in P and has reverse lights, it however will not start in N.  I have tried several different positions of adjustment and it just WILL NOT start in N.

Anyone have any insight as to what I might be missing here?

Technical Advice and Questions / Clutches
« on: May 18, 2011, 08:40:50 pm »
I'm going to try to get my clutch done before the show but work and my wedding has put the Jeep on the back burner for the past couple months. I wanna know what everyone recomends for a 95 4.0 XJ with 33s currently 35s to come eventually. I still intend to drive it as an occasional DD so I need something multi purpose.

I was clicking through the Jeep Facebook page and saw this. Thought maybe it would be a cool idea to arrange the trophy winners at the show like this.

Technical Advice and Questions / 95 XJ Radio
« on: October 18, 2010, 03:24:52 pm »
I'm trying to put a radio in my XJ and having some power issues.  The purple and white wire for ignition switch seems to not be suppling power to the radio when turned on.  I put the multi meter to it and it starts out at 11.72 volts and just drops to zero over the course of a minute or so.  When I first installed the thing everything was peachy but 5 minutes after installing it it shut off and wouldn't come back on.  After that I hooked the yellow and red wires both into the constant 12v and it worked but doesn't turn off with the ignition. Any ideas on this one?

Technical Advice and Questions / Spider gears and Locker
« on: July 09, 2010, 12:41:31 pm »
So I have a Detroit spider gear replacement locker in the rear Dana 44 of my XJ. I had thought I was having issues with my clutch because it seems to slip when pulling out. But I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm torn between rear diff or clutch. I'm going to try to bring it to the meeting tonight if anyone would like to try and help.

Vendor Feedback / Experiences / RockAuto.com
« on: June 02, 2010, 10:55:15 am »
I've been using Rock Auto's website to buy all the replacement parts to put the ZJ back on the road. I have shopped around for better prices and I just don't see anyone cheaper than them on most things, even with shipping. They also ship thing super fast unless otherwise noted on the site for backorder stuff. They also have a section which lists a lot of manufacturer rebates which makes it even cheaper.

They sent me an email after my last order with a 5% off coupon code which they said can be distributed to friends and such and has unlimited useage.

5% Coupon code Expires July 11th:  32369512664817

Technical Advice and Questions / 4.0 Rebuild
« on: April 20, 2010, 08:17:25 pm »
I got the 4.0 out of the 94 parts vehicle I had, finally.  Before I put it into the ZJ I was going to replace most of the seals, water pump, thermostat, and freeze out plugs. Just wondering if anyone recommends doing anything else while I'm at it? For example replacing the oil pump or having the head checked and valve seals replaced?  The motor is from a 94 that had about 90k on it when I bought it but it's been sitting in the Jeep since early 2007.

Also, I know that the 4.0 seems to run better on Champion copper plugs but what wires does everyone recommend? We use Autolite wires at work just because they have the factory style boots on them and snap on easier. I'm looking for best mpg and maybe some performance.

Technical Advice and Questions / Dana 44 Differential
« on: March 21, 2010, 09:08:51 pm »
I paid someone to set up the 4.56 gears and Detroit locker in my Dana 44 and finally got the thing in and ready to go. When I drove it I hear a binding metal to metal noise from the rear and it jerks when I pull out. It also makes a humming noise down the road. Anyone have any suggestions on what to look for aside from maybe the pinion depth wasn't set up correctly?

Technical Advice and Questions / 35" Tires and Rims
« on: March 19, 2010, 12:16:20 pm »
Just got a set of 35s and currently have 15x8 American Racing Steelies. Just getting opinions on whether I should get 15x10s or stay with the 15x8? I've got some time before I'm putting the 35s on, I need to lift the Jeep a bit more. I wanna wheel my Jeep on the 33s this summer and when winter rolls around go to a long arm kit and 35s.

Vendor Feedback / Experiences / Omix-ADA Inc.
« on: July 11, 2009, 09:33:46 am »
I bought their Dana 30 differential cover for my XJ a few months back. I went to put in on a few weeks ago and half the bolts holes don't line up. One of my co workers also bolt a Dana 44 cover from them after I bought mine. He had the same issue of the bolt holes not lining up.

I don't know how other companies covers fit, but it seems as if for $100 you shouldn't have to modify it. If so they should just not bother powder coating them and save on some costs.

I also didn't like the experience I got when I tried to call Alloy USA's customer service and since Omix bought their inventory it went to their phones. I wasn't given any help with the axle tube seal issue I was having. I was told they don't offer support for the Alloy USA products, I should talk to who I bought them from. Why bother having the number forwarded if you're not gonna help anyone who calls?

Technical Advice and Questions / Cherokee Front Trac Bar
« on: June 21, 2009, 08:06:38 pm »
I was aware of the hole towards the front of my trac bar axle bracket being egged out but I was unaware that the one in the back was even worse. I had originally planned on just welding a plate to the front and being done with it. But since both holes seems to be messed up I'm confused again.

Anyone have any ideas to repair both holes and not have death wobble?
