General Discussion / Occupy Wall Street and Defense Industry
« on: October 19, 2011, 02:59:05 pm »
I know we have many ex-military and active duty folks on the forum and I have spent my career in the defense industry.  This came in one of my trade journals today and I thought it would be enlightening for those not familiar with the "defense-industrial complex."  Even though I am currently unemployed due to force drawdowns and budget cuts, I still fiercely believe the work I have done (and hope to do again in the future) is critical and important for those on the front line.  As John Keller points out, if not for industry our US troops would be much worse off.  I don't know of many (if any) in the defense industry that do what we do purely for money.  Yes, businesses are in business to make money but the people in the defense industry are driven by other motives.

Enough of the soap box - just want to point out that not all business is based upon corporate greed:

Vendor Feedback / Experiences / Pro-Trans Transmission Specialists
« on: December 24, 2010, 01:05:58 pm »
I recently had a transmission replaced and front drive shaft re-built at Pro-Trans in State College PA.  They did excellent work (although a new transmission is never cheap :(), and I felt like a valued customer.  Before doing any work, they re-filled the trans. and tested it to make sure it required replacement.  Dennis gave me a worst-case estimate and stayed within it.  They understand what I did with the Jeep and made recommendations on a more optimum option based on off roading.  They also had to fabricate some spacers to get my rear driveline angle right and did that a very good price.  In addition to transmissions and drivelines they do engine work and other vehicle mechanical work.  I'm going to have them install my NP-241 TC when I get it finished.

They even shared their holiday buffet with me while I was waiting for my driveshaft.  :)

I heartily recommend Bill, Dennis and their staff at Pro-Trans - in business for 28 years.

Vendor Feedback / Experiences / Double D Design Fabrication
« on: August 23, 2009, 10:00:48 pm »
I just picked up my TJ double radio console from Dan and it's really a quality product.  Dan's great to deal with and I even was able to drive to Lititz to pick up the console.

He did not have a design for the TJ when I ordered it (you may have seen his CJ/YJ consoles and dashes at the show), but he took my measurements and made up some drawings for my approval.  A little later, the console was ready.  I'll have a thread up shortly on the install into my TJ.

He even offered to come up with some custom panels if I need them as I install my radios into the console.  If you need some interior metalwork like dashes, consoles, etc., get in touch with Dan.
