Regional Issues / Re: Trails Rd Dispute
« on: May 29, 2012, 10:15:34 pm »
This road is about 1/4 mile from Wayne and I (as the crow flies) and it just seems crazy to me that people drive so far to drive on it.  It's a really, really short road and doesn't seem like it would be worth the gas to get to it.  I can see why the residents would be annoyed by a caravan of jeeps going through there.  I've seen as many as 20 jeeps "staging" at the Delta Family Restaurant on any given Saturday and I just find that utterly ridiculous.  Why not drive up to Rausch or Michaux?  We have a little dirt road next to us, which is public, although unmaintained.  If 20 jeeps came through there on a Saturday when I was out trying to do yard work or garden, I would be annoyed too (and I'm one of you).   The suggestion to contact Michelle Poole at the Township building is a valid one.  She handles EVERYTHING land-related in Peach Bottom Township.  If the road is legal, then it's legal, but good grief why not go where you'd have enough wheeling to keep you busy for days, rather than minutes?  ...just saying...  Billie Jeanne

Glenn - I don't think you're allowed to bring everyone you know and have the club pay for it.  I think they have to be your spouse or children...just a guess  :o
You might ask Jenn about that!  Billie J

Erica,

It's funny that you say that about changing the tire.  My dad forced me to learn how to change my tire and to change my oil before he would allow me to get my drivers license.  I hated him for it.  Well, last year I returned from a trip from somewhere at midnight and when I got to my car in the airport parking garage, my tire was flat.  Needless to say, I knew my husband would not drive the 65 miles to BWI to come to my rescue so I called the garage people.  They said they would be there in 1-2 hours.  DAMN!  So, I decided to make the attempt.  Lo and behold, I did it!  I called my dad the next day and apologized for melting down when he forced me to learn.  Moral of the story:  pay attention when they teach you, but don't let them KNOW that you're paying attention.  That way, you can request their assistance, but can do it if you HAVE to.  Unfortunately, I've managed to learn a lot about jeeps by mere exposure.  You can't stop it from going into the brain, even if you try.   ;D  BJ

I think its kind of funny that someone has the kind of time that was required to cite all of those PA laws and regulations.  Really, nothing better to do?  Let him/her have their time in the spotlight - it gives them a reason to live!

The show was awesome and I personally heard nothing but positive comments!  Great job to all of you who worked so hard preparing, executing and cleaning up afterwards!!!  KUDOS to you all!!!  Billie Jeanne ;D

If you were a TRUE Appalachian American you would have known that you're supposed to put half of them on your roof to hold down the shingles and the other half in the front yard to plant flowers in them.

I know, because that's what my dad does with them  ;D  Billie Jeanne, pure Appalachian American

TELLICO LAWSUIT DISMISSED - FOREST SERVICE TO RELEASE NEW PLAN

Court papers filed today indicate that the lawsuit brought by motorized recreation advocates against the US Forest Service over the Upper Tellico Off-Highway Vehicle Area will be voluntarily dismissed.  The case was filed by the BlueRibbon Coalition, United Four Wheel Drive Associations, and Southern Four Wheel Drive Association and challenged temporary closure orders issued by the Forest Service in December 2007.  According to a stipulation entered by all parties to the case, it is the Forest Service's "stated intention to complete a public planning process and announce a new decision in the near future which will likely substantially impact or change the interim orders referenced in the complaint..."  The Forest has provided proposed management alternatives and received comments through July 2008, on the new plan from the recreation organizations and many others interested in Tellico management.

"We are pleased that the Forest Service has made active management of Tellico a high priority, and that this planning process seems to have avoided some of the diversions that have delayed similar decisions in other areas," observed Jay Bird, immediate Past President of Southern Four Wheel Drive Association.  "Under these circumstances, and mindful of the desire for both Forest Service personnel and recreational enthusiasts to focus on the new decision and future management, we agreed that dismissing this action was the right thing to do," Bird concluded.

The dismissal is without prejudice, meaning that these same organizations or other interested parties could file administrative appeals or lawsuits challenging the ultimate outcome of the new planning process.  Further information about the plaintiff organizations, including information about the ongoing planning process at Tellico and developments in other matters, can be found as indicated below.

Safety / On & Off The Trail / Re: Air Bag Deployment
« on: September 16, 2008, 03:39:03 pm »
Sue,
I'm glad to hear you're doing ok.  However, unless your Liberty has a side impact air bag, it probably wouldn't deploy.  Wayne and I were t-boned by a drunk driver in 2001 (I was driving) and the front air bag did not deploy.  I have since purchased vehicles with side impact airbags.  I believe the front airbag only deploys if you're hit in the front or back, not side.  I know how much pain you're probably in and speaking from experience, go for all of the therapy they tell you to.  I'm currently having serious back pain that is a direct result of that accident 7 years ago.  Believe it or not, you could expect pain in your arms and legs as well as your back, so don't overlook those either.  Feel better!  Billie jeanne

Of course my husband was the tall guy with glasses and curly hair - he was the announcer.  Obviously, I have some hostility when my husband is publicly berated for doing nothing but his best as a volunteer to help this club.  That is the only reason I even responded to these posts and PM'd you.  I've stated my opinion to you both publicly and privately.  I'm done and will not comment further.  I suppose we can agree to disagree with the manner in which opinions are stated.  Respectfully, Billie Jeanne Fish

Your comments were nicely written, CONSTRUCTIVE and non-personal in nature.  You made some very useful suggestions:  water stations, misting tent, etc.  Thank you.  Billie Jeanne
