If anyone needs a Jeep for this ride, I have a TJ that is very familiar with the Bald Eagle State Forest ;D

Sorry, won't be there this time.  I'm down at the RR Museum for their Norfolk Southern days.  Telegraph duty calls.

Maybe in the fall.....

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: Thinking rear brake conversion....
« on: December 18, 2011, 09:24:33 pm »
Just picked up a 96 ZJ rear axle to do the very same thing to my 2000 TJ.  It seems like the way to go if you want to keep the cost low.  The conversion kits I've seen from the retailers are in the $600-$900 range.  I even got the e-brake cables with the axle.

Still have snow on the ground up here in Centre County.  But, we only got about 4-6 inches.  It seems the heavier snow was just to the east of us.

Plus Dave sprained his ankle at our volleyball game last night and is supposed to stay off of it till Monday.....so he will need me to wait on him hand and foot. ;D

So I guess no more manual (pedal?) removal of fender flares till then? :D

General Discussion / Occupy Wall Street and Defense Industry
« on: October 19, 2011, 02:59:05 pm »
I know we have many ex-military and active duty folks on the forum and I have spent my career in the defense industry.  This came in one of my trade journals today and I thought it would be enlightening for those not familiar with the "defense-industrial complex."  Even though I am currently unemployed due to force drawdowns and budget cuts, I still fiercely believe the work I have done (and hope to do again in the future) is critical and important for those on the front line.  As John Keller points out, if not for industry our US troops would be much worse off.  I don't know of many (if any) in the defense industry that do what we do purely for money.  Yes, businesses are in business to make money but the people in the defense industry are driven by other motives.

Enough of the soap box - just want to point out that not all business is based upon corporate greed:

Thank you to those who are and have served.

I have uploaded a ~7 minute video from my tailgunner dashcam to the album above (same as my photos).  Since the leaves were not in full color, it's at standard quality to save space.

The camera is hardmounted to my dash, so the bounces and tilts are just what the jeep is doing at that moment.

Again, Lots of FUN ;D and miles - at 51.5 miles, it's the longest single trail ride I've been on.

Well, the ride was really great and the rain made some of the easy roads a little challenging.  I got some pics of The Gorge and Whiskey Springs:

Lots of shots of Jen's undercarriage - not too many are repeats of the same time she put the tires in the air.  Likewise with the little yellow flatty.  Both drivers exhibited some excellent driving skills to make it out.

Jen claimed she wanted to take the flares off to prepare for new tube fenders anyway. ;D

I'll attempt to post some video from my dash cam later.

Will the Friday convoy be taking 322 through State College?  If so, I can join up with you there.  If you're leaving around 11am, that should put you in State College somewhere around 1 PM.

I know the M38-A1 headlight was hinged and rotated back away from the front of the grill.   I think it and the Mighty Mite would be the only ones that fit #3.

Had a custom bracket fabricated and installed to mount a video camera on my dash.  Now I can take video of trail rides from the driver/passenger perspective ;D    Going to try it out on Sunday with full operation for the combined EVOR/PA Jeeps ride as my goal.

I saw some good YouTube videos taken at the Jeep Show where guys had cameras mounted on their light bars and under their fenders as well!

The trail cameras that capture wildlife are popular, but since I didn't have one I didn't want to put my video camera outside.  Next best place seems to be the dash - it's low enough that it won't obstruct my vision but still high enough to shoot through the area cleaned by the wipers in case I get muddy :o  Now I'm going to have to clean the inside of the windshield.  ::)

Also, FINALLY ran the power feed for my amateur and CB radios directly to the battery (and fusing both positive AND negative leads at the battery).
