Broken rear window zipper?
« on: September 12, 2009, 01:19:56 pm »
The rear window on my TJ is broken. The zipper will zip up all the way around the window like it should but it wont pull the two pieces together. Does anyone know how i can fix this or do i have to buy a new rear window?

sounds like the teeth are off alignment. take it to the beginning of the zip and try to wiggle the zippy part to realign the teeth before they mesh up.
build it, beat it, break it, fix it, repeat

Weve already tried that. We took the entire window out and then put it back in and the zipper still wont pull the two pieces back together.

This is what Bestop says to try. Look at the slider part of the zipper if it looks like it is spread apart  Use pliers to press the slider part of the zipper together untill the top and bottom are parallel. I have done this and it works.

I just went outside and tried that. The zipper on the right side has the cloth piece jammed up into the zipper pull itself and it will slide up if you tug on it with plyers but it still wont pull them together. On the left side the pieces are aligned and it still wont pull the pieces togther but it will slide all the way up and around.

Thats what i did. The entire zipper is busted and there gonna charge $65 to put a new one in so thats alot better than buying a new window.

next time go to the upholstery shop on the West Philly and Sherman street in York.  (Usually has some wagoneers out front) charged me $5 for a new one.
