Title: 4.0L engine replacement
Post by: BEARZ71 on November 26, 2007, 09:32:11 pm
just got a 98 TJ w/a bad motor....
just got a wrecked 96 XJ w/a good motor....

will this be a direct bolt-in (read: easy) swap?  what obstacles will I be facing -- i've done plenty of old school gm stuff, this will be my first jeep motor replacement.

Physically it should be a drop in - especially if you keep the target vehicles ignition and fuel injection (if there are differences, not really certain).  Check the accessory mount configuration and motor mounts as well - if they're different retain the target vehicles - at least for the easiest swap.  Note - I'm assuming that both are 4.0 I6 power plants - if not then you're going to have to do a lot of homework -

thanks, both are 4.0L....  i was hoping to just snatch the complete motor w/manifolds & FI in tact and dump it right into the TJ.  both are manual trans as well, for what it's worth....

anybody else?
