Thanks, Jenn.  I might have the time to pop up on Friday night, so maybe I'll see some of you there.  If not, I'm definitely planning on Saturday and maybe even Sunday breakfast.  I now have both PA Jeeps and EVOR stickers on the jeep and I'm looking forward to the 15th as well as the event in November. :)

When will the convoy from York be arriving in Beech Creek?  I may be available to check out the camping area on Friday and socialize a bit before returning to Millheim for the night.  That'll make it easier for me to find on Saturday morning.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before  :P  but anyway since I have a radio console that stretches from the top of my windshield to the sport bar, I was able to add a soft top support.  I took some 1/2 inch thick open cell foam packing material I was going to throw out and rolled it into about 2-3 inch diameter by about 6 inches long.  I then stuck it up between the top and console.  It's somewhat compressed and should expand and contract as the top shrinks and stretches over temperature.

My soft top is now very quiet even at highway speed and sheds water nicely. :)

I'm in this year. I'll be driving up from Millheim Saturday morning and returning to the comforts of home that evening.   ;D

What time is breakfast on Sunday?  Will there be any wheeling on Sunday?  Just want to know how early I'd have to get up for that day.

Ah,  you were overridden by the one with absolute veto power.  ;D  It'll get lots of cooling there on the back of the console anyway.

I think there's a few grommets in the firewall near the battery and computer to run the leads through.  At least that's where I was going to try to run my ham/CB radio power leads out whenever I finally finish that project.  ;)  When I poke wires through an empty grommet or next the wires running through one, I use RTV to seal it back up again.

Here's a link for you Jim...

That installation is a little scary.  Remember, you're dealing with 110 Vac, not 12V.  The outputs need to be wired like a house, not a vehicle.  I'm not sure that Molex plugs are rated for that voltage.  Also, keep the inverter in a spot where there is good airflow.  The heatsink fins are a clue to the fact that inverters are not 100% efficient and any DC energy not converted to AC is converted to heat.

It's an interesting installation, but just be careful with the outputs.  I'd recommend some of the flexible conduit to run the AC wires to prevent chafing as it's easier to have an arc-over at the higher voltages, particularly around sharp metal edges and screws.  Likewise protect the connections against moisture and dirt/dust all of which can create an arc path.

Good luck.  Let us know how it turns out.  Might be something really useful to add to my TJ.

Though it was not as significant as a beer run  ;) , I took the family through Bald Eagle State Forest/Poe Valley State Park/Poe Paddy State Park on Sunday.  Green trails to be sure, but the views were magnificent.  I know where I'm taking the camera this fall ;D  Even saw a grouse on the road before it did what grouse do and flew away like a fighter jet with afterburners.  Next trip is to Sullivan County, then who knows, maybe a club ride again?

Wow, that's really neat.  I'm going to have to pick up a few of them.  Thanks for the info.

Nope, can't go.  I'll be in Sullivan county toiling away at painting, splitting wood, etc.   >:(

I'd like to, but I need to check and see if that's our annual workday at the cabin.  Since I'm President, I won't be able to get out of it, so I'm hoping it's not that weekend. :-\

If I do join in, I will probably drive up for the day each day.  I am close enough to do that.

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: RSD TJ lift advice
« on: February 25, 2011, 05:08:32 pm »
I have a 2000 TJ (left hand drive) with a 2.5" coil lift and 1.25" body lift and it works well for me.  I only run 31 x 10.5s right now, and I can probably go to 33s without any trouble.  If I go to 35s I'm looking at cutting fenders and going with hiline type front fender.  I like low center of gravity and would rather get my clearance from tires and low profile skid plates than suspension lift.  That is purely a matter of personal preference and I'm sure there are many others with different preferences that can give you good advice in that direction as well.

The 1.25" BL should not give you any problems if you do a motor mount lift at the same time to keep the fan and shroud lined up and also to help the drive line a little.  My personal preference in a BL is no more than 1.25" and that gives you a few advantages in addition to more tire clearance.  You have room to get a better gas tank skid plate that raises the tank up for more rear clearance.  You can more easily change the stock mid skid plate to a tummy tuck type.  And I did not have any issues with hoses or wiring with that minor combination of lifts.

One thing to be wary of is the rear driveshaft on the regular TJ is very short and even a 2.5" suspension lift will require a SYE kit or skid plate spacers to keep it from binding when you have full flex on the rear axle.  You might get away with it on the street, but the trail is a different matter.  I have a spacer on my non factory skid plate until I finish my NP241 TC and go to the CV style Rubicon shaft with it.  With the BL, I have no fear of fitting the 241 right in place even with the higher skid plate.

Good luck - I'm not sure what you'll have to work around with the RH drive.

Replaced the blower motor resistor.  No longer need to have it set to full "hurricane" to get heat  ;D

Had the Master Cylinder replaced because I didn't like the feeling of the brake pedal hitting the floor when I wanted to stop :o

Vendor Feedback / Experiences / Pro-Trans Transmission Specialists
« on: December 24, 2010, 01:05:58 pm »
I recently had a transmission replaced and front drive shaft re-built at Pro-Trans in State College PA.  They did excellent work (although a new transmission is never cheap :(), and I felt like a valued customer.  Before doing any work, they re-filled the trans. and tested it to make sure it required replacement.  Dennis gave me a worst-case estimate and stayed within it.  They understand what I did with the Jeep and made recommendations on a more optimum option based on off roading.  They also had to fabricate some spacers to get my rear driveline angle right and did that a very good price.  In addition to transmissions and drivelines they do engine work and other vehicle mechanical work.  I'm going to have them install my NP-241 TC when I get it finished.

They even shared their holiday buffet with me while I was waiting for my driveshaft.  :)

I heartily recommend Bill, Dennis and their staff at Pro-Trans - in business for 28 years.
