Title: Need advice on larger tires and gears for a TJ with a 2.4L
Post by: streetmaster on November 17, 2007, 11:58:40 pm
Hey fella's, im new to jeeping and this site so please be nice. I've had an 04 SE Wrangler for about a little more than a year, and im starting to get inchitis. My TJ has the 2.4L with the NV1500 5 speed, and  D30 in front,  D35 out back with 4.11's. The tires are the 28" P225/75/15 Wrangler GSA's. I dont plan to wheel my TJ much at all, so ill need a gear and tire combo thats good for a DD and wont die down much on long grades. I live in SW PA and travel a lot cross RT40 to and from work, which is some what hilly and  get 20+ in fuel milage with a stock combo. I thought about 31's with either 4.56's, or 4.88's. Plus i thought about 32's with either 4.56's or 4.88's. (Please Advise)  ??? ??? ???

If your changing gears in a 4cyl. 5sp. go 4.88s. for the 32s But I'm not sure about the 20+ mpg that may drop off a little.

Cool, thanx for your input, sounds like a plan. I like the look of a TJ with 32's and a little lift. After i posted i found a chart in a 4WD mag, and the 4.88's with 32's will run the same stock RPM's as 4.11's and 27" P215/75/15's.  8)
