14th Annual (2009) / Jeep Show T-Shirt Design
« on: April 05, 2009, 09:37:46 pm »
Is their any sneak peak of the 2009 shirt design as of yet?

Also, can I still help out with the show this year even though I'm not a member right now? I was a member last year and I'm signing up at the show for my membership.

Thanks,
Rickie Wilson Jr.

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: Skid Plates and Bumpers
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:52:04 pm »
Well, since I mangled my previous bumper up, I'm just buying a bumper for now. I went with the Warrior one because I got it on special for about $300 shipped from Morris 4x4.

As far as the skid plates go, I'm going to install the factory ones for now and see which ones get bent first and replace as necessary.

Morris 4x4 Center

www.jeep4x4center.com

I recently ordered a Warrior front bumper for my Cherokee from them. I looked around the net and at a few of the local shops for this bumper, I wasn't able to find anyone with a cheaper price than these guys. They sent me an email within a few hours telling me it would be coming directly from the factory within 5-7 days and I recieved it 6 days later.

I would consider them again in the future when shopping around for Jeep parts.

I also found out yesterday, after I had already recieved the bumper, that if you put FORUM9 into the checkout you recieve and additional %10 off. Now they tell me  >:(

Technical Advice and Questions / Skid Plates and Bumpers
« on: March 18, 2009, 10:20:08 am »
Alright so I have a few bucks to stick into the XJ and I'm thinking maybe a Warrior Products front bumper with D-Ring mounts and some skid plates. I severely butchered my front bumper with a hack saw when I was cutting for my fender flares. Right now I have the factory skid plates I pulled from my Up Country parts vehicle but aside from the gas tank skid they all look pretty useless as far as protecting my vitals. Anyone recommend any particular skids? I know from experience the transfer case crossmember takes a huge beating, so I'm looking for more towards that area to protect. Also, any used parts for sale I'd be interested in would be cool.

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: bumpers
« on: February 23, 2009, 03:33:05 pm »
I put a stock front TJ bumper onto the rear of my XJ over the summer. All I did was modify the stock XJ brackets so where it bolts to the bumper fits into the TJ bumper. Then drilled 4 new holes in the tj bumper once it was centered. I believe where I drilled the holes was right where a half of a previous hole was at but i just drilled and hoped for the best. But my bumper only holds on by 4 bolts now comapred to the stock XJ 6 but I'm not intending on pulling people out with it. I have tow hooks for that. With the previous two XJ bumpers I am 2 for 2 on destroying them anyway so it is just a temporary bumper til I get the $400 for a good one.

Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of my modified brackets but here are two with the bumper on.

PA Jeeps Membership / Re: Taking some time off

Yeah, I won't. Once it starts getting warm again I'm sure I'll have plenty of tech related questions too  ;D
I miss driving my Jeep, this Dakota is alright but it's not my Jeep  :'(

I'm waiting on the final word from a company I applied at. If all goes well I will start in the first week or two of February with a stable 40 hours a week and a dollar more pay than before. So maybe it will be for the best.

PA Jeeps Membership / Taking some time off
« on: January 20, 2009, 11:05:24 am »
Nothing against PA Jeeps but I've gotta let my membership expire this year around. Although with just one tubing trip it's paid for, I'm laid off and out of a Jeep at the moment. I plan to take this year to find a job and finish getting my Jeep back on the road. I will hopefully have this done by the Jeep show so I can rejoin and enter into the show.

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: Drilled and Slotted Rotors ?
« on: December 27, 2008, 01:45:32 pm »
Might be the Autozone rotors. At Red Lion Chevrolet we put a few sets of those on and they were pulsating on the first run. Word from the grape vine is the cheaper rotors are the same as the pricier ones from them but they are the rejects. The guy from Autozone told us once when we complained about the pulsation from a new rotor that they require machining before installing. Even the premiums come back within a week with pulsation complaints, whether we turn them or not. Bottom line, in my opinion, Autozone parts are cheaply made junk.

On another note, my truck had Napa cross drilled(dimpled) and slotted when I got it. They were brand new about 3 months prior to buying it and it pulsated. It's a Dakota and had 33s on it at the time but in my opinion they are about useless for the price you pay for them. I was going to buy them for my XJ before getting this truck but people told me horror stories about getting mud in the holes and causing all kinds of havoc. Luckily I scored a set of normal Mopar ones still sealed in the boxes from Craigslist for $50. Usually when we have a Jeep in the shop and call between Napa and Fischel, it's cheaper to buy Fischel's. They have specials on Rotor/Pad combos a lot fo times. For the one 01 Grand Cherokee it was like $100 for the whole package.

Hope some of this helps you out.

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: lift and tires for 89 xj?
« on: November 19, 2008, 11:59:00 am »
Well, the last I have delt with my trac bar was sending it to Rusty's for them to do some research on it. I guess they found the threaded part was a bit weak and since then beefed it up. But I haven't got to try the new end out. I opened a can of worms a few months back by starting multiple projects at once and then we hit our slow season at work. Now I am scrounging around for money to get the project rolling again. It seems as if the Rustys trac bar will be sturdy enough now. But I would upgrade to the heavy duty mount and heavy duty end inestead of the tire rod end it comes with. All in all it might be less hassle to go with another brand trac bar.

Technical Advice and Questions / Re: question on install pricing
« on: October 29, 2008, 07:27:19 pm »
Yeah, time consuming it is. I helped my buddy's dad set my dana 44 up and that took us all day to just get it semi set up. Every time you need to adjust something it all has to come apart. I was being cussed out all day long for not just getting a Ford 9.0, apparently they can be set up within an hour or so. I believe national 4x4 wanted around $1,200 to do both, I had them out of the Jeep too. That's about what the going rate is from calling around, but too expensive for my blood.

Come on, just get some dirty old saw horses and set up shop under a tarp in the middle of the yard like I am doing still. Plenty of wide open space for all kinds of projects.  ;D

Just figured I'd grumble about my 4:56s w/33s that are still not finished. I will let you know how that goes once I finish. I am still up in the air between 4.10s or 4.56s but I am stuck with 4.56s. I'm not sure how much of a mistake I have made yet but I'm sure thinking going from 3.07s to 4.56s will be a BIG change. I might as well forget about 1st 2nd and 3rd gears on the street.

To add to Jack's LS and locker advice, I wouldn't go with a factory LS they break too much. But if you want a broken one, I believe my Dakota's will swap right over to a Jeep 8.25 rear  ;D Also, when my Cracker Jack box Detroit Gearless Locker in the XJ snaps, I intend on going to the Auburn ECTED Electric Locker. Seems like a good setup and no air to fuss with.

Technical Advice and Questions / Superior/Alloy USA Axle Seals

Has anyone else installed these front shaft seals on their Jeeps? I have been tyring to figure out if I will need some sort of machined surface on the axle shafts. My axle shafts have some light rust on them and it seems to me that would destroy any seal. I have emailed a few people on ebay who sell them, they just cut and paste the description onto the listing and have no clue what they are selling. I would really like to have a seal on the outer ends of my diff after seeing all the crap in my tubes and some mud in my diff itself.
Thanks,
Rickie
